The game is inspired by classic Ludo, but reimagined with a World Cup theme : the world’s greatest sporting event. Instead of the traditional 4 colors, each player chooses a national team to represent before the match begins. The pieces are the flags of the chosen teams, and the objective remains the same as in original Ludo: move all pieces to their corresponding home area. At the center of the board, where the four home areas meet, stands the World Cup trophy : the ultimate symbol of victory, claimed by whoever manages to place all their flags first.
The choice of the World Cup theme was a strategic design decision. As an event of universal emotional identification, it deepens player engagement and creates a clear narrative: lifting the trophy. For people with tetraplegia, who are often left on the sidelines of collective sporting experiences, the game offers a symbolic and meaningful way to take part in that shared culture. Furthermore, since traditional Ludo has no narrative of its own, the World Cup theme introduces a story, an emotional goal, and characters : the national teams : transforming each match into a fresh and engaging experience.
To make the game even more dynamic and strategic, special squares were added to the board, inspired by real football situations: yellow card (skip a turn), red card (go back to start), foul whistle (all players roll the die and the highest roll may place a new piece), counterattack (advance 6 squares), penalty (choose a player to sit out for 2 turns), goal (choose a player to return to start), substitution (all pieces swap places counterclockwise), and wall (the player with the lowest die roll moves back by the highest number rolled).
